Child Sexual Exploitation Material. Guidelines for action

PrevenSI is a specialized association working for the prevention of child sexual violence (CSV). This is an innovative project that arises as a result of a long period of analysis of this serious problem and possible intervention strategies. The prevention of child sexual abuse is a collective responsibility that requires the active involvement of all of society.

PrevenSI addresses the reality of sexual violence against children and adolescents through a 360º approach. This involves creating and implementing preventive and care resources aimed at anyone who may be concerned about a situation of CSV, such as: the victims and their environment, professionals, and lastly, and importantly, people who feel at risk of perpetrating CSV and those in their environment.

Their website offers various resources such as an online and telephone support service, an anonymous chat, and an inquiry email. Additionally, it includes a public awareness campaign with videos and graphic supports.

In 2024, PrevenSI recorded over 35,000 visits to its website, more than 80% of which came naturally, that is, through internet searches related to their services and content, without paid advertising.

Services

PrevenSI works on CSV prevention from a comprehensive approach through different lines of action:

  • conducts various outreach activities, either through social networks, family talks or workshops for students.
  • offers training, capacity building, advice, and consultancy to professionals, as well as guidance in promoting and implementing child and adolescent protection policies.
  • provides direct support to families needing guidance or therapeutic support to manage any situation linked to CSV.
  • offers a voluntary and anonymous support service through online, telephone, chat, and email assistance to people who feel at risk of perpetrating CSV.

Profile of contacts

The hotline has been in operation since 2019 and has received more than 2,800 contacts. Currently, it receives an average of 70 contacts per month. Notably, more than 30% relate to people who feel sexual attraction towards children or adolescents.

Regarding the contacts received from people who feel sexual attraction to children or adolescents, it is important to note that this is an anonymous and voluntary service. The professionals attending to these individuals perform the following actions:

  • risk assessment of committing CSV.
  • evaluation of the discomfort level of the contacting person.
  • identification of the type of help the person is willing to receive.
  • containment or redirection in cases of high discomfort and/or risk of committing CSV.
  • referral to therapeutic treatment services when the person is motivated to receive it.

The most common contact methods are email and chat, accessed through the website, which is PrevenSI's most important and far-reaching dissemination channel, as well as the hotline.

Hotline for professionals

PrevenSI offers a hotline aimed at professionals:

  • who have concerns about a CSV situation.
  • who are unsure how to intervene in a CSV situation.
  • who cannot identify whether a situation truly constitutes CSV.
  • who need guidance on how to handle a CSV situation with victims, perpetrators, and/or the environment.
  • other possible groups involved in a CSV case.

It is noteworthy that around 25% of the contacts received are from professionals from various fields such as social, health, education, justice, etc.

Contact is free, and PrevenSI can assist you via chat, email, or call to offer initial guidance from specialized professionals.
